For this parody song project, I decided to work with my friend to rewrite a song we both love by a favorite group of ours. We chose "Dynamite" by BTS, a newly released song that is currently very popular. Our inspiration for the lyrics came from our current situation, being stuck in quarantine. We brainstormed feelings and activities we felt many people could relate to during this unfamiliar time. Before starting the project, we were worried about how we would come up with lyrics that fit the song perfectly. However, as we sat there thinking, the lyrics naturally started to flow out of us. It was a process of trial and error, trying to find the right words and phrases, and it involved lots of laughter, but in the end we were able to create a piece that we were both proud of. Even though we struggled with certain lines and coming up with ideas to fill those lines, we knew we would not run out of topics to write about and so we kept thinking until we finally found something we were happy with.
I am most proud of how little difficulty I had with coming up with lyrics for the parody. Although it was my biggest concern going into the project, it turned out to be the most fun for me. I am also proud of my ability to learn how to use ProTools, a completely unfamiliar platform in a relatively short amount of time thanks to the help from my teacher and peers. I will use these newfound skills in future projects that require the same level of creativity and the use of apps similar to ProTools. This project made me appreciate the talent of artists even more than I did before, as I recognized the patience and skill it takes after writing and singing a song myself.
